Why Beanies?

We’ve all seem them around at some point. Those knitted hats embroidered with the world’s most obnoxious, often controversial sayings on the front.

Ladies and gents, the list goes on. But for some reason I can’t help but find these hats hard to resist when it comes to channeling your edgier alter ego or trying to make a fashion statement (literally). Granted the first time I saw someone wearing a beanie was in the pages of Style Magazine, but I noticed one girl who rocked the edgy accessory while crossing the street in the trendiest city of all, New York. My only hope is that people won’t be afraid to wear them around campus. And no, not just on girls, but guys too! None other than the rap king himself,  A$AP Rocky, was spotted wearing one of these hats out and about. Not to mention the VMAs personal exotic dancer, Miley Cyrus, the pretty little liar, Ashley Benson, and my personal fashion icon, Rihanna.

Now for some of you, leather boots, cut-offs, and beanies may not be your thing. But for those of you who don’t mind branching out of your “all Lily Pulitzer/vineyard vines all the time” wardrobe, the beanie is the perfect way to take a fashion risk this fall.

Seriously though, does everyone have to wear the same thing all the time? Ladies, with your stretched out Hardtail yoga pants reminiscent of your awkward prepubescent phase and worn-out rainbows from middle school. Guys, with your beer-stained boat shoes and pastel shorts with polos. It may be time to amp up your college wardrobe almost as much as you do with your speakers at a postgame.

I personally love pairing these badass hats with a casual outfit. For instance, a pair of high-waisted cut-off shorts from Nasty Gal with a simple crop top from Brandy Melville and my favorite pair of leather boots by Michael Kors. Keep in mind they come in different shapes and colors, and most of them without embroidered words, if that’s what you prefer. Now for the guys, maybe wait until the weather gets a bit cooler, because I know I love my men wearing one of these bad boys with a leather jacket, white t-shirt, jeans, and a pair of leather motorcycle boots. Google Justin Theroux guys, you’ll get the idea (Ladies, you’re welcome).
